Laurel River Trail, less than 2 miles from
RiverDance. The Laurel River Trail is an excellent (rare) level ground hike in
the Southern Appalachians.Beautiful scenery,a wild river and a distinct
endpoint on the French Broad River. Old logging ruins, beaver signs and lots of
"wildness" characterize this 4 hour walk. Best hiked in fall or
winter. One of the best hikes around Hot Springs NC
Max Patch, On the Appalachian Trail, this 4,600-foot
mountain was cleared and used as pasture in the 1800s. Today, it's a 350-acre
tract of open land on a high knob with 360-degree views. On a clear day, you
can see from Mt. Mitchell on the east to the Great Smoky Mountains on the
south. What a picnic spot! And great for star gazing and enjoying wildflowers.
Lovers Leap Trail, The hike is 45 minutes
to 1.5 hours depending on how much time you take to enjoy the views, wild
flowers, rhododendron and scenery. Individuals in moderate physical condition
can enjoy this hike.
